Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Tell me about Sandringham Golf Club?

A. Sandy is a one-day a week Golf Club that conducts a weekly competition every Saturday on the Sandringham Golf Links. Although we have used the course as our home course since our Club was incorporated in 1937, we don't have any formal relationship with the course management, nor do we enjoy any special rights or privileges. Our members book to play in the same way as any other member of the public.

Q. How do I join?

A. You need to fill out an application form and return it with a cheque or money-order for the required amount to The Secretary, SGC (1937) Inc, PO Box 21, Black Rock, VIC 3193. If you prefer you can pay online by contacting the Secretary at the email address shown below. We are unable to process credit cards. Application forms are also available for download from our website by pointing your browser at "Join" on the main website at www.sandringhamgolfclub.org.au. Alternatively, we can mail or email one to you if you contact the Secretary on 9589 1203 or by email to secretary@sandringhamgolfclub.org.au

Q. How much is it to join and how long does it take to gain membership?

A. There is an initial joining fee of $90, and an annual subscription of $90, making $180 for the first year and $90 per year thereafter (subject to review at the Annual General Meeting in November each year). New member applications are processed each month at our Committee meetings with no waiting or probation period required. Once your application has been approved you will be contacted shortly afterwards by the Secretary who will supply you with some basic Member information so that you may begin to enjoy the benefits of membership immediately.

Q. How do I get a handicap and will it allow me to play at other clubs?

A. Our club is affiliated with The Victorian Golf League (VGL) which is affiliated with The Australian Golf Union (AGU) and therefore your handicap is recognised worldwide. You need to submit three cards for your initial handicap. The cards may be from any golf course. They must be correctly filled in and signed by you and the marker.

Q. What kind of competitions do you run?

A. We conduct a weekly competition virtually every Saturday of the year with a full range of events including stroke, par and stableford events. They also range from Club Championships to Monthly Medals, Ambrose events, pairs events and Matchplay tournaments etc. Our members generally play in the morning with a field of between 50 and 80 players being the norm.
